Maine Foliage Tour
Maine Foliage Tour focuses special attention on the spectacular beauty that is the fall foliage season in the State of Maine. This 5 cycling day (6 total) fully-supported touring-pace ride averages 45+ miles per day. The 233 mile route begins and ends in Portland ME. In between it meanders northeastward into the backroads of rural Maine and then back down along the coast. The average daily mileage offers the perfect distance to allow for plenty of time to see and explore some of the most beautiful foliage and scenery in the country.
The route heads north from Portland through apple country with the obligatory stops at a few orchards to taste this years crop of apples, cider, and, of course, cider donuts. This is cycling country, rural, rolling, peak foliage and great company. The tour continues north-east to Maine’s capital city, Augusta. There are great opportunities to see the foliage with scenic hills and lakes providing the backdrop. Make sure you bring your camera. The tour now turns to the east as we roll down to the Maine seacoast and the Atlantic ocean. Fall is the perfect time to ride past the many coastal fishing villages. Watch as the lobstermen haul their pots in for the season. Don't forget to sample some of the local fare of lobster rolls and clam chowder. Explore the many coves and narrows as the rugged Maine coast jets out into the ocean. The ride continues south along the coastline and passes by the famous boat building towns of Rockland and Boothbay. You will enjoy meeting the friendly local people as you approach by bicycle. And finally we finish up back in Portland some 200 miles later. You will see many sights and really get to know the beauty and diversity of Maine, not to mention the great colors of fall. Come celebrate fall New England style!
