Highlights of the day:
Our stretch of amazing weather came to an end today. We left the hotel on dry roads but that changed about an hour into the ride. Light showers turned to steady rain. Steady rain in the 50s. Riders kept the stops short to keep warm. Some soldiered the whole way in to the hotel. Others said enough – we’re on vacation and joined me in the van. Fun was had by all.
We started the day riding over the Sheepscot River and through the small coastal town of Wiscasset. The route then took us over some more Maine hill repeats as we worked our way to cross over the Kennebec River and into Bath. Colors didn’t pop as much without the bright blue background but the quiet tree lined roads were still worthy of photographs. The hills gave us the opportunity to slow down and enjoy them all the more.
After Bath and our last SAG stop of the Maine Foliage tour, we headed towards Freeport. It seemed just as we were settling into some flat stretches, we’d turn a corner and be greeted by yet another hill. They weren’t huge but just enough to keep the legs working and the scenery interesting.
The last stretch into Portland brought us through more populated areas with a little more traffic. We ended where we started on Monday. The Hampton Inn. We had our last meal as a group, shared stories and talked about riding together again soon. It was a great ending to our 5-day adventure
