Highlights of the day:
Another beautiful morning. After homemade pumpkin muffins, we set out with temperatures in the upper 30s, a light wind, and clear blue sky. We rode over the Sheepscot River and through the small coastal town of Wiscasset. The route then took us over some more Maine hill repeats as we worked our way to cross over the Kennebec River and into Bath. Along the way we saw more beautiful fall colors. Going up hills just gave us more time to look and appreciate.
After Bath and our last SAG stop of the Maine Foliage tour, we headed towards Freeport. It seemed just as we were settling into some flat stretches, we’d turn a corner and be greeted by yet another hill. They weren’t huge but just enough to keep the legs working and the scenery interesting.
Freeport was another stop for the riders. It’s LL Bean’s hometown and mecca of outlet shops. We all did our best to help the local economy. The last stretch into Portland brought us through more populated areas with a little more traffic. The colors were still there but the riders had to focus a bit more on cars and traffic signals.
We ended where we started on Monday. The Hampton Inn. As all the riders on this tour are staying for the Fall Foliage, there will be no goodbyes tonight just another nice meal to talk about our day and plan for the week ahead.
