Cycling Date: Sunday 12-October-14
Mileage: 37 miles
Weather: Crystal clear blue skies. Low 50s to start. Low 60s to end. Winds out of the north. A stunner!
Highlights of the day:
Today was all about seeing the sights and tasting the food. Seven miles into the ride, we pulled into Fort Williams Park and the Portland Head Light. We then headed down the coast to Two Lights on Cape Elizabeth. While we might have planned to bring out all the goodies for our first SAG stop, The Lobster Shack proved too much of a temptation and we made this our official lunch stop. Chowder, lobster rolls, fried clams, and blueberry pie. We tasted and enjoyed them all. Hey, we just rode 14 miles!
Back on the bikes and down the coast, we took a little side trip out to the point of Prouts Neck and back. Nice foliage. Lovely coastal views. All for just 5 miles. On route once more, we made our way into Old Orchard Beach and our stopping point for the day. Walking along the beach. Viewing the plethora of tchotchkes and t-shirts. Eating more seafood. These are all activities on the agenda to close out an enjoyable Day 1.
