Distance: 66 miles
Weather: Windy, very windy, at first then beautiful with temperatures in the 80s
Up and out early again today - on the road by 6:30 and out immediately into a brutal headwind for twelve miles. One at a time they would "spin" by the van pedaling consistently and steadily attacking this climb a little at a time. These cyclists are focused and determined and they all made it through this headwind like troopers arriving at Cerro Summit very strong! They then set out for the SAG stop at yet another summit!
The reward for climbing was a long downhill arriving at Blue Mesa Lake and continuing on. This is a huge reservoir that seemed never ending. Miles later the riders arrived at Gunnison after a total of 66 miles on the bike. Several riders had pushed themselves and made the trip to see the very calm and serene Black Canyon. They were overwhelmed with the beauty and enormity of the Canyon.
Riders also dealt with a fair amount of road construction today with several flagmen and managed like the champions they are!! Early to bed tonight because tomorrow we ride over Monarch pass which is one of the lower passes in the Rockies but nothing to be ashamed of at 11,321 feet.
