Distance: 94 miles
Weather: Beautiful, but quite warm by afternoon!!
We set out this morning on a very pleasant road with a small tailwind and eventually spent many miles alongside the Arkansas River. The road was very curvy and for the most part downhill for many miles to the first SAG at mile 37.6 at Five Points Recreation Area which was right beside the Arkansas River. Riders were able to watch many white water rafters as they moved quickly down the river. The water level was very high and fast moving causing many shouts of laughter as the rafts bounced them up and down.
Eighteen miles later riders entered the town of Canon City where some stopped at the local bicycle shop and visited the next door cafe for a break. However, temperatures were heating up so they moved on to the second SAG at mile 63.5 at Col. Leo Sydney Boston War Memorial Park. From here, riders set out for the last 30 miles all on Route 50 East until they entered the outskirts of Pueblo. After several short turns, they arrived at the hotel and managed to stay ahead of the threat of an afternoon thunderstorm.
We said goodbye to Lia who will be returning to the Netherlands and her dogs and Carole who will be returning to Pennsylvania and her many nieces and nephews. Both will be sorely missed. Riders now have a rest day to enjoy and prepare for the next leg.
Check in as they prepare to enter Kansas in a few days.
