Distance: 81 miles
Weather: Hot, humid, rainy etc…
The day started out humid and got worse. Riders managed to ride the first 32 miles without getting rained on, but after that all bets were off. Drizzle started to develop as most of the riders left the sag. The drizzle soon gave way to torrential downpours and thunderstorms. Riders took cover where they could, some in a barn, one in the van and some were lucky enough to be able to sit down and eat lunch while waiting out the storm.
After an hour or so the storm died down and riders reappeared on the road ready for the next adventure. And the next adventure came quickly in the form of a closed road. A bridge was being worked on and vehicles could not get through. The first riders were able to walk through under the bridge but once the rain collected there construction workers laid down planks for the riders to cross.
Unfortunately, some had mud accumulate on their bikes. But they made the best of it and met a farm family who let them wash off their bikes. Those riders claim they had beautiful weather for the rest of their ride.
As staff we were very happy once all our riders were at the hotel and accounted for. Now time for some rest!
