Distance: 65.4 miles
Weather: Breezy and mild in the morning…warming up to the 90s in the afternoon.
Another new experience to challenge the riders today was the better part of 65 miles on a paved bike path - sounds simple until they looked at the "cue" sheet. It was four pages long with two columns on each page and many, many turns making the ride not only a physical challenge, but now a mental one as well. To ease the pain, staff member Jane left hotel early this morning with a pocket of chalk to help mark some of the turns on the trails which was greatly appreciated by the riders.
After riding on a trail through the Salt Lake Airport, they headed out to a few turns on different Parkways until they were able to pick up the bike path at mile 8.9.and stayed on it until mile 22.1. Five more miles and the riders arrived at their last "In-N-Out” burger joint for the one and only SAG stop of the day. Seven more turns and they entered the Mountain Bike Trail (which is paved and not named for “mountain bikes” but rather because it is located on a mountain).
Two miles later they exited that trail and then picked up the Murdock Canal Trail which offered stunning views of farmland and Lake Utah. Once off this trail they rode on the Provo Parkway Trail. The riders got to cycle through Brigham Young University campus to University Parkway and finally entered the hotel for the night.
We can surely say it was a day of bike trails! Pretty soon one will be able to cycle from Salt Lake City to Provo without ever leaving a bike trail!
