Distance: 67 miles
Weather - 100 degrees+. HOT!!
Happy Father's Day to all of cycling fathers today!! Today the riders had much less climbing than yesterday, and MUCH better road and shoulder conditions, with appropriately placed rumble strips!!
We left the hotel with very warm temps even at 8 this morning and they climbed to a high in the low 100s!!! As previously mentioned, the name of the game was HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!!! These amazing people did what they needed to do and arrived at the hotel by 1:30. Scenery today could make one feel like they were in a striated mountain sand globe as opposed to a snow globe. All the way around lots of sand and many shades of brown with blue sky sporting very wispy clouds!!! Very little shade was available anywhere today, leaving riders no choice but to occasionally stop to stretch their legs and/or snap a few pictures in the midst of the extreme heat!!
Tonight we are staying 50 miles from Arches National Park and some of our group were transported to this "wonderland of over 2000 natural arches" with many colorful landforms. Winding in and out of the arches are many trails that one can explore. A 3 feet opening in the rock qualifies an arch for a name. Forty three arches have fallen since 1977 and fortunately none of them are a result of human intervention.
Everyone was ready for bed after a scrumptious cookout at the hotel. Tomorrow will be another hot day as we enter another state on his long challenge! Check in to see how riders fare!!
