Springfield to Champaign, IL
Rolled out of the capitol and hit the countryside today to see corn and soybeans – for miles! Corn so tall, sometimes you felt like you were riding in a corn tunnel.
The weather was good as our riders came into their first SAG at the site of Abe Lincoln’s first home in Illinois. The second SAG was at the Cisco Fire Department – a new site for us, one that featured facilities (always a good thing). People are usually kind when you come into town on a bicycle. Not even the famous Illinois chip-seal (a technique where they put down oil and then cover it with stone) was much of a problem. I’d say today’s 95 mile ride was more recovery than anything else.
Tomorrow we bid Illinois goodbye as we roll in Crawfordsville, Indiana – the pace is picking up as we roar towards our goal of the Atlantic Ocean!
Come back and see how they did.
