Dodge City to Great Bend, KS
Get outta Dodge! What a wonderful day we had to ride. After dodging (pun) rain last night, our riders awoke to grey skies that soon turned into warm sunshine and comfortable temperatures, for their 86 mile ride to Great Bend, KS. Along the way, they were treated to a rest stop in Midway, KS, the official half-way point from San Francisco to New York City, and the Sod House museum, that includes a rather large locomotive engine. Can you say picture op?
After that, we said goodbye to Route 50, and headed north east along route 56 to Great Bend. Riders had the opportunity to explore Pawnee Rock, one of the most famous landmarks on the Santa Fe Trail. They zoomed by the B-29 Memorial Plaza, located near Great Bend, before arriving at their hotel. Some riders took advantage of the early arrival to visit the local bike shop to re-stock much needed items, like tires and tubes.
Tomorrow they have a relatively short day, as they ride to McPherson, KS.
Come back and see how they did.
