Gunnison to Salida, CO
What a cool ride we had today. I mean it was 32 degrees when we left Gunnison… There was frost on the windows of the cars in the hotel parking lot.
What followed was a crisp ride to Sargents, CO, where the jumping off (up?) point is for the 9 mile climb to the top. There, we met some self –contained cyclist heading in the other direction, interesting.
After that, it was a fast (30-35 mph, for me) descent into Salida. Cross winds and traffic seem to always cause a problem, but all our riders did great!
Last year we had to contend with forest fire smoke when we hit the hotel, this year, clear and cool!
Tomorrow we head to Pueblo and the second rest day.
Come back and see how they did.
