Battle Mountain to Elko, NV
A short day with more climbing that gets us ready to make two long runs towards Salt Lake City and our first rest day. Before they get to rest, they do have some climbing to do. Leaving Battle Mountain on Mule Shoe Road, they entered I80 where they encountered their first construction obstacle. Riders had to time the traffic to get around a concrete barrier while some bridge work was being done. Next they got a free dead lane ride up to the first rest stop and then all the way up Emigrant Pass (elevation 6100+ feet). After that comes the reward of some 8 miles of downhill before they ride into Carlin, NV for their second rest stop. Usually, we then ride into Carlin Canyon to avoid a major tunnel that is not safe to ride in. This year, because of construction, our riders got to safely ride through the tunnel and head another 10 miles to Elko, NV, home for tonight.
They will be sleeping fast, as tomorrow brings the first of back-to-back 100+ mile rides.
Come back and see how our they did.
