Elko to Wendover, NV
Bright sun (when it finally came up) greeted our riders today as they got underway for 107+ mile day. After a 5 AM load, followed by breakfast, they left to travel I80 with the wind at their backs most of the way.
A few rollers to wake up the legs gave way to a fast downhill, and food, in the town of Wells. The major climb of the day entailed ascending to Pequop Summit, elevation 6,967 ft.
While the day seemed to be an easy one, the support staff was busy making sure the rest stops were adequately stocked, flat tires from all those little wires that get released when a truck tire shreds, keeping riders watered in the dry climate, and then the odd emergency mechanical repair needed to allow riders to finish the day. As a result, I did not have much opportunity for picture taking today.
We did welcome a new rider last night as Peter came to joint us for a two week portion of the trip. Always good to see past ABB friends!!
This is our last night in Nevada, so it is fitting we spend another night in a casino, whose buffet was very good, and well received by all of us on the tour.
I have included a link to a YouTube video I found that gives you an idea of what today was like. Enjoy it if you want to.
Two of our riders completed their first ever century ride – tomorrow they will get a chance to build on that as they must ride 120+ miles to Salt Lake City and their first, well-earned, rest day.
Come back and see how they did.
