Distance: 77 miles
Weather: Sunny and warm in the mid 80s
What a great day! Not nearly as hot as yesterday and plenty to see today. We left the hotel on Route 5 with little traffic on this early Saturday morning. We arrived in St. Johnsville after about 10 miles to a wonderful welcome of hot and cold drinks and homemade brownies from Bob’s friends. This stop was right across the street from a church Bob served in back in the 80s. We were also welcome into the church that had some amazing architecture from the hull of a ship.
After this we set out on rolling roads which had wildflowers growing on either side. What a pretty sight. Every five miles or so we came upon a small town. This is a lot different from out West where we could go 50 miles without seeing anyone.
The second official sag stop of the day was at “Jumpin’ Jacks” drive in restaurant. This is a neighborhood favorite in Scotia, NY serving hamburgers, clam rolls, ice cream and many other fast food items. Some of our riders stopped here for a bit of lunch before heading out on the bike trail along the Erie Canal. Today was our last day along the canal so I hope everyone had their fill!
Tomorrow we pass into our 2nd (or 3rd if one counts Maine) to last state, Vermont. Time has moved very quickly. But it ain’t over till it’s over so check back and see what our riders get up to in the next couple days!
