Distance: 64 miles
Weather: high-60s to begin then to the high-80s, wind…..AGAIN!
The rain ended just a short while before the riders headed out. This gave us a nice cool start to the day. It was still pretty cool as we arrived in Ellinwood KS a small town that has gold wheat on the lampposts as decorations.
It warmed up slightly and the clouds started to dissipate as we reached the sag stop. Thankfully Lyons, and the Dairy Queen were only a few miles away and riders stopped there to refresh themselves. Lyons was the last town we would ride through before arriving at our night’s destination. But, before that, there were 38 miles to travel, all of it on a two lane highway with truck traffic. The truckers were extremely polite and, for the most part moved over quite a ways for us.
On arriving in McPherson riders were greeted with an illuminated sign welcoming them to the city! Some riders stopped at the Main Street Deli for lunch (which was amazing!). We did run into a bit of road construction before arriving at the Hotel for the night.
*And a big “Thank you” to Joe R’s sister Julie for the cookies! Can’t wait to taste them.
