Highlights of the day:
It was another amazing day to be on the bike. I know any day on a bike is great but the freaky, bizarro, wicked awesome riding weather continues to stay with us. Cool temperatures. Favorable winds. Dark clouds appeared on the horizon but produced no rain. We may eventually have to pay all this back and when we do, it will be one heck of a big check. But for now, I will re-re-re-re-repeat myself THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Adding to the great weather – we had some really nice roads today. They were as smooth (quoting Jim, our mechanic) as a baby’s bottom. We were “forced” to ride through brand new pavement several times for many miles. Such is our burden!
The riders are coming to terms with the fact that they can now say “only 87 miles” and after 87 miles comment that they didn’t have to work that hard. The winds did indeed help but they are getting stronger. Their bodies have adjusted to riding day after day after day. This tour changes a person – physically and mentally. It’s one of the many benefits of long distance touring (with ABB, of course!).
The day started out with a spin through a much more urban area than we’ve been used to for quite some time. More traffic. More stores. More restaurants. No cornfields! We did spy our first Dunkin Donuts, right next store to a Tim Horton’s. My inner coffee and fried dough connoisseur cried as I rode past. Not to worry, our second SAG was right next to a Dunkin Donuts. Our New Hampshire rider was beside herself with excitement. At least I think it was excitement and not the large iced coffee with a triple espresso shot. Needless to say, we gave this store some good business today.
Today’s ride just flew by. It was very flat all the way into the first SAG at the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area. After that, we entered more rural farmland and the terrain began to roll for the rest of the way into the hotel. It was a fast, enjoyable, lovely day for a bicycling. Let’s do it again tomorrow!
