Cycling Date: Tuesday 23-June-14
Weather: Upper 60s to start. Low 70s to end. Bright sunshine all day long.
Highlights of the day:
The last day of our first leg was a relaxing 64 miles – short(ish) and relatively flat(ish) . I’m not sure if Day 1 seems like yesterday or 3 months ago. We finished our eighth day of cycling and accumulated over 600 miles.
Just up the road from the hotel, we crossed our first state line from Oregon into Idaho. Staff member Karen says we finished the best state of the tour (she’s from Oregon). Staff member Jeff says we FINALLY finished the first state of the tour (he’s from Minnesota). This staff member will remain neutral, except when it comes to Massachusetts.
Today’s route went through more farm country before we hit the suburban area outside of Boise. We saw horses, cows, buffalo, goats, and lots of dogs of the friendly variety. We passed and smelled fields of mint, onions, garlic, and lavender. Maybe that’s why we were so hungry when we rolled into town??
Starting around noon, riders rolled into a hip little area of Boise called Hyde Park, and practically took over a small restaurant for lunch. Each rider saw the steadily expanding row of bikes outside and stopped to join the festivities. Full of food and good cheer, they rolled the last miles to the motel and settled in for our first day off.
